Icon
The goal of this project was to select an object of choice and be able to accurately sketch and translate the sketch digitally. The end goal was to have a simplified well communicated object icon.

Sketching and Ideation
In this phase you can see the translation from photo to ideation sketches. Something that was important for me to show was the correct proportions and organic shape of the hair clip. In the last sketch you can see a shaded drawing of the hair clip which will help later on in the digital translation to show those curves and edges.
Narrowing Down Image Position
Sketching and Shading Proportions
Digital Iterations
In the translation process of going from sketches to digital iterations I mainly focused on cleaning up the lines and edges of the sketches but also making sure to not take away from the organic shape and details. Keeping the end goal in mind of a simplified modern icon It was important to start limiting the amount of shading and lines but also making sure the viewer would still know what the object is.
Revisions and Reiterations
Something unique about this project is through the translations and phases I actually made revisions to the design itself and was able to choose a better position of the hair clip that would make for an even simpler icon design.
Final
After taking the drawing of the hair clip into a simplified version into illustrator and then going through and adding thickness and proportions I then lastly added shading and lines to honor edges. The final design of the hair clip is an icon that can be functional and recognizable, honoring the organic shape, lines, and edges showing a thorough translation from drawing to digital.
